NACHOED!

This is my second season as an usher (Fan Host) at some of the Rays games. For me for the most part it is a lot of fun. I get to watch baseball, mingle with people and often tell the same jokes or quips to an ever changing audience. On Saturday I had a new experience. While standing at the top of the aisle of the two sections I was assisting, I did not see but only heard a man say “oh no!” He happened to be right next to me at the top of the stairs and his comment was in regard to losing his grip on his nachos as they tumbled to the floor. The mess of cheese and chips is what you would expect, but what I did not expect as I looked down on this Mexican food mess was that a significant portion of the nachos went on me. I had cheese on both of my pant legs as well as tomatoes, chips and cheese all over one of my shoes. Mind you this was even before the game began so regardless of how much I tried to clean my self up there were the inevitable stains. The “Mexican (Food) mess maker” was completely embarrassed and apologetic. After getting it all cleaned up (except for me that is) we both had a good laugh throughout the game each time our paths crossed.
My “nacho” experience got me thinking about how many times in life we make a mess and it spills on other people. Often it is not intentional but there seems to be some collateral damage nonetheless. Now life would be a lot easier and less complicated if all our “messes” were as easy to clean up as spilled food. But there are messes we have created that have stained other people and at times similar to my situation the other person has to deal with more of the mess than we do even though we spilled it.
Life is not nearly as clean as we would like it to be. When you do deal and live with people messes are inevitable. There are certainly precautionary steps we can take to cut down on the number of messes we make. However, when it comes to being a victim of the circumstance that often is part of life and we need to be prepared for not only clean up but an attitude of forgiveness and understanding. We all know this is not easy and often our response is based on who spilled what on us.
Here’s to us all being more careful with our spills and even more sensitive to those who spill on us.
